What does your current job involve?

Component design, creativity, innovation.

When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was in primary school I wanted to be a medic and then along the way it changed and I became an engineer.

What are your hobbies?

I love lawn tennis, I used to play a lot in high school. I play bass guitar and I’m also learning flute. I play in a band and we often perform in church.

Who has been an inspirational person in your life?

My Sunday school teacher and my lower school teacher both contributed so much to who I am today. They helped me to think and to see that everything is possible. Plus my Sunday school teacher let me be Jesus in all the plays.

What alternative career might you have pursued?

I’d still be an engineer, I like to create things. Or perhaps I’d be a motivational speaker.

What languages do you speak?

English, Swahili and Kamba.

What is your favourite colour?

Blue – azul.

What is your favourite animal?

A chameleon – it can become invisible and carry on with its life.

What is your favourite food?

Machoma and ugali.

Where is your favourite place?

In Machakos mountains there is a place called Ngelani where water flows uphill and gravity doesn’t apply.

“Before driverless car technology was talked about much, I created a robotic system that could automatically detect and avoid obstacles. My professors still want me to develop a simple driverless car to test it out on a larger scale.”

  1. I’m shy when I first meet someone but not when I get to know you.
  2. I envy people who talk a lot, because I can’t.

What is your coolest achievement?

I created a jiko (stove) that could cook food and heat water at the same time. I presented the idea to my supervisor at school and they let me create it as a project and it worked.
